Sinopsis:
Immediately before a global catyclysm, Anna and her family arrive at their holiday home in the countryside only to find it is occupied by a group of complete strangers. This confrontation is just the beginning of a painful learning process, as they discover that nothing will ever be the same again.Set in the present, a family turn up at their holiday home (shades of »Funny Games«) to find a strange family have moved in. Something apocalyptic has happened, we never find out exactly why but suddenly there is no order – just groups of individuals fighting for survival against some hidden menace which makes any stranger an automatic enemy.
Without pyrotechnics or a-list actors we are taken into the horror of the apocalypse. Questions unanswered make this even more frightening than knowing the source of doom (and doom is what we expect to occur). Even the brief appearance of rescue or organisation becomes frightening when we see the mute survivors travelling blank faced to an unknown fate, is it better or worse?
Le Temps du Loup is a great movie with shades of maybe, »The Birds«, or »The Blair Witch Project«, at its core and perhaps the BBC drama series, »Survivors«, as the closest in plot.
At the centre of the film is a family including the young son Ben played by newcomer Lucas Biscombe. Lucas features in one of the most frightening scenes I have ever seen in a film, a scene that takes several minutes of dread to watch. It is a great performance, playing the subdued and ultimately comprehending witness to what is actually happening.
